The RESCUE YOUTH Program is a volunteer program administered by the Plainfield Charter Township Fire Department and the Gerald R. Ford Middle School.

RESCUE YOUTH is offered to students between the ages of 11 and 14 who have leadership potential but may be exhibiting at-risk behavior.

Without appropriate channels to express leadership skills, many children can be caught up in destructive behavior such as frequent absenteeism, and/or tardiness. They also have the potential to drop out of school for, among other factors, low self-esteem, lack of motivation and basic life skills, dislike of school or classes, minor disciplinary problems, minimal family structure, feelings of alienation, financial need, and/or minimal association with known gang members. It is the goal of RESCUE YOUTH to provide leadership opportunities and mentoring for these children.

The RESCUE YOUTH Program has been developed to promote positive leadership opportunities with one-on-one mentoring as a success strategy for helping youth avoid the hazards of negative peer pressure. This year long program is operated at no cost to the family and promotes commitment to education and academic excellence in school.
